‘Chicago’ delivers a satisfying dose of subversive medicine

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Susan McPhail has a fresh take on the old story of Colonel James Macleod, Commissioner of the North West Mounted Police, visiting Calgary House and returning to Canada to change Fort Brisebois to Fort Calgary. I have often heard it said in Canada that Macleod had relations at Calgary House. We are now told a local legend that he had a woman friend at the house which creates a new possibility: that he had relations in more ways than one!

The Late Charlotte MacLeod

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

The late Charlotte MacLeod taught the rest of the mystery community how to write humor with straight characters. The Kelling clan will keep you glued to your seat as we find Sarah Kelling, for the first time, trying her best to weave her way through intricate puzzles, while preserving her place within the family circle.

MacLeod was a master of plot with few dull moments and her pace never lags. Sarah loses her husband and finds her mate, but those are other books in this fun-filled series.
